Voriconazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Here's the basic idea with Voriconazole (Vfend). Your body partly clears this antifungal using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and in lab dish testing, BMPEA slowed that enzyme down by about a third. If that happens in real people, voriconazole could clear out more slowly and build up higher than expected.

More voriconazole in your system can mean more of its known side effects, things like visual changes or blurry vision, nausea, headache, and at higher levels, possible effects on your liver. I'll be honest though: this is based only on lab testing, not real patients, so it's theoretical. Still, since these products may contain a hidden stimulant, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. About Voriconazole

What Is Voriconazole Used For?

Brand name: Vfend

Voriconazole treats serious fungal infections. These include invasive aspergillosis (a serious mold infection), candidemia (Candida yeast in the bloodstream) in people who are not neutropenic, and other deep tissue Candida infections.

It is also used for esophageal candidiasis (a Candida infection of the esophagus) and for serious infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum and Fusarium species in people who cannot tolerate other treatment or whose infection has not responded to it. Esophageal candidiasis is listed for most products, but not for the Voriconazole for injection (intravenous) product in the supplied evidence. Age limits differ by product.
