Here's the short version: trazodone works by raising serotonin in your brain to help lift your mood. Acetyl-L-carnitine may, at least in theory, nudge serotonin up too. Stack the two together and you could in rare cases get more serotonin than you want.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. The concern comes only from animal studies, not from people, so it's theoretical. Still, it's worth knowing the warning signs of too much serotonin: agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or feeling confused. With trazodone you may already notice drowsiness or dizziness, so don't brush those off. If you want to add this supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
