Cyclacillin falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with Cyclacillin, an oral penicillin antibiotic. Algin is basically a soluble seaweed fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. The concern is purely about absorption: that gel could physically trap some of your antibiotic and keep a little of it from getting into your bloodstream. If less drug is absorbed, the antibiotic could end up slightly weaker at fighting your infection.

I want to be honest, though. This is rated minor and is only theoretical, based on how algin behaves in the lab, not real cases with this drug. An easy fix is simple timing: take your Cyclacillin first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any algin supplement. Food amounts of seaweed are unlikely to matter much, but check with your pharmacist to be safe.
