Dimenhydrinate falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: algin is a soluble seaweed fiber that turns into a thick gel in your stomach. Because of that gel, it could in theory grab onto a swallowed tablet like dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) and slow down how much of it your body soaks up. If less drug gets absorbed, you might not get the full relief from motion sickness, so nausea, vomiting, or dizziness could break through.

I want to be honest about how soft this concern is. This is only a theoretical interaction based on how fiber behaves, not real-world reports of it failing. It's rated minor. An easy fix is spacing them out: take your dimenhydrinate first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the algin. When in doubt, your pharmacist can confirm.

Dimenhydrinate is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. It is available in several products — including Dramamine, Dramamine Original Formula, Gravol, Driminate, Airmit Ace, and others — all sharing this same core use.

Dimenhydrinate Injection is indicated specifically for the prevention and treatment of nausea, vomiting, or vertigo (spinning sensation) of motion sickness, given by intramuscular or intravenous route in medical settings.
