Roflumilast falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with roflumilast (Daliresp or Zoryve) and algin. Because algin is a seaweed fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach, there's a chance it could grab onto a pill taken at the same time and slow or slightly reduce how much you absorb. If less roflumilast got in, it might not do as good a job calming the swelling in your lungs and easing your COPD flare-ups.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab work, not real patient cases, and it's rated minor. An easy fix is simple spacing. Take your roflumilast first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any algin product. When in doubt, run your timing by your pharmacist.

Its best-known medical use is in heartburn products, where it forms a barrier that helps reduce acid reflux; evidence for other uses like lowering cholesterol or weight loss is weaker. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but check with your pharmacist before using it as a supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Is Roflumilast Used For?

Brand names: Daliresp, Zoryve

Daliresp and roflumilast tablets are used to reduce the risk of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) flare-ups in adults with severe COPD linked to chronic bronchitis who have had flare-ups in the past. They are not rescue inhalers and will not relieve a sudden breathing attack.

Zoryve cream is used topically to treat plaque psoriasis (adults and children 2+) and mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children as young as 2. Zoryve topical foam is used to treat seborrheic dermatitis (adults and children 9+) and plaque psoriasis of the scalp and body (adults and children 12+).
