Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear amlodipine, the active ingredient in Istin. Lab studies hint that American elder may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, amlodipine could build up a bit more than usual, which might nudge its blood-pressure-lowering effect stronger. You may notice things like swollen ankles, lightheadedness, flushing, headache, or a faster heartbeat.

Here's the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not on people, so the real-world risk looks low. Eating a normal amount of properly cooked elderberry is unlikely to matter much. If you plan to take concentrated elderberry supplements regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first.
