At least one FDA label for a product containing Sucralfate says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — American Spikenard included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Sucralfate on its own and move American Spikenard to a meal later in the day.

Carafate tablets and sucralfate tablets are also approved for maintenance therapy — meaning a lower dose taken after an ulcer heals to help keep it from coming back.
