No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Androsterone and Ranitidine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Androsterone and Ranitidine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Ranitidine and Androsterone in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Ranitidine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Ranitidine is filed under 6 classifications — including h2-blockers, cytochrome p450 2d6 (cyp2d6) inhibitors, organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates. Androsterone has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being androgens (minor) — and none of Ranitidine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Androsterone and Ranitidine May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 230,801 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Ranitidine that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ranitidine page

“Ranitidine (Zantac) is a heartburn and ulcer medicine gentle enough to have sold over the counter, but two of the 74 supplements and herbs on file with it earn real caution and are worth understanding first. Activated charcoal can soak up ranitidine in the gut and blunt the dose, and St.”

About Androsterone

What is Androsterone?

Androsterone
  • Muscle building and athletic performance
  • Boosting testosterone or androgen levels
  • Supporting libido
  • Bodybuilding 'prohormone' stacks

Androsterone is a natural androgenic steroid hormone made in the body, but supplement versions are classified as anabolic-androgenic steroids and are banned from U.S. dietary supplements under the DASCA law. There is no good evidence that taking it is safe or effective, and it carries the same hormone-related risks as other anabolic steroids. Avoid products that contain it, and talk to a pharmacist or doctor about safer, legal options.

Not applicable (a steroid hormone, not a plant) · Historically sold as oral capsules, tablets, and sublingual products in 'prohormone' supplements (now banned in the U.S.)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Androsterone is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Androsterone record says about it on its own.

Androsterone: dosing

There is no established or recommended safe dose of androsterone as a supplement, and it is illegal to sell in U.S. dietary supplements. We do not provide dosing for it.If you see a product that lists androsterone or one of its alternate names on the label, treat it as a banned anabolic steroid rather than a normal supplement.

About Ranitidine

What Is Ranitidine Used For?

Brand names: Zantac 150 EFFER, Zantac 150 GEL, Zantac 150, Zantac Geldose, Zantac, Ranit, Zantac Efferdose, Zantac 300, Zantac 300 GEL, Ranitidine injection

Ranitidine treats a range of stomach acid–related conditions. Prescription-strength ranitidine (capsules, tablets, and oral solution) is used for active duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the small intestine), active benign gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), GERD (acid reflux disease), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and pathological hypersecretory conditions — rare disorders where the stomach makes far too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also used as maintenance therapy to keep duodenal and gastric ulcers from coming back after they have healed.

Over-the-counter products — including Acid Reducer and Acid Reducer 150 tablets — are approved to relieve heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach, and to prevent that heartburn when taken before eating or drinking foods that trigger it.
