Amiloride, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Artichoke interacts with.

Theoretically, artichoke leaf extract may increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
A meta-analysis of small clinical studies in patients with hypertension shows that taking artichoke can reduce systolic blood pressure by around 3 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by around 2 mmHg when compared with placebo.

Here's the simple version: your medication, the amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide combo, already works to bring your blood pressure down. Artichoke leaf extract may nudge blood pressure a little lower too. On its own that drop is small, on the order of just 2 to 3 mmHg in studies, so for most people it's nothing dramatic.

The thing to keep in mind is that the two together could add up. If your pressure dips too far, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or woozy when you stand up. This concern is mostly theoretical and based on how things work, not strong proof. Honestly, culinary artichoke on your dinner plate isn't the worry, it's concentrated supplement doses. If you want to try it, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Moduretic, Amilzide, Moduret 25, Amil-Co

Amiloride hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) or congestive heart failure who tend to develop low potassium (hypokalemia) when taking a thiazide or other diuretic alone — or for whom keeping potassium levels in a normal range is especially important, such as people taking digoxin or those with significant heart rhythm problems.

The tablets may be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medicines, such as methyldopa or beta blockers. This combination product is not intended as the first-choice treatment for swelling (edema) or high blood pressure unless low potassium is a specific concern.
