Amlodipine Besylate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Artichoke interacts with.

Theoretically, artichoke leaf extract may increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
A meta-analysis of small clinical studies in patients with hypertension shows that taking artichoke can reduce systolic blood pressure by around 3 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by around 2 mmHg when compared with placebo.

Here's the simple version: amlodipine (Norvasc) lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Artichoke leaf extract may nudge blood pressure down a little on its own. When you put the two together, the worry is that your blood pressure could dip slightly lower than expected, which might leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or a bit tired, especially when you stand up quickly.

I want to be honest about how strong this is. The interaction is mostly theoretical, and studies only showed artichoke trimming blood pressure by a few points (about 3 mmHg on top, 2 on the bottom). For most people that's small. Still, if you're already running low or adding artichoke as a daily supplement, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor. Don't change your amlodipine on your own.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norvasc

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
