Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for your Aristada shots. Aripiprazole lauroxil is cleared in part by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, astaxanthin appears to speed up that enzyme, which in theory could clear the medication a bit faster and lower its levels in your body. For a long-acting antipsychotic, weaker blood levels could mean your symptoms (the disturbed thinking or mood swings this drug holds in check) aren't as well controlled.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It comes only from test-tube and cell studies, and this effect has never actually been seen in real people. So I wouldn't panic. Still, since missing coverage on schizophrenia or bipolar matters, just give your pharmacist or prescriber a heads-up before adding astaxanthin.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
