Ba Ji Tian and Chlorpropamide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Chlorpropamide

Chlorpropamide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ba Ji Tian interacts with.

Animal research shows that taking ba ji tian extracts might increase or decrease blood glucose levels. Theoretically ba ji tian might have additive effects or attenuate the effects antidiabetes drugs. Monitor blood glucose levels closely; dose adjustments of antidiabetes drugs might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the honest picture: we don't have solid human studies on this one. In animal research, Ba Ji Tian has gone both ways on blood sugar, sometimes lowering it and sometimes raising it. So if you pair it with chlorpropamide, a sulfonylurea that already pushes your pancreas to release insulin, the worry is unpredictable swings rather than one clear direction.

If Ba Ji Tian adds to chlorpropamide's effect, your sugar could drop too low (shakiness, sweating, confusion, dizziness). If it works against it, your sugar might run higher than expected. Chlorpropamide is long-acting, so lows can linger. Please don't change anything on your own. Check your readings more closely and loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
