Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Aminophylline, Amobarbital, Ephedrine
Aminophylline, Amobarbital, Ephedrine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Berberine interacts with.
Animal research suggests that berberine may have sedative effects. Theoretically, use of berberine along with CNS depressants might produce additive therapeutic and adverse effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This older combo product (Amesec) is a mix: it has amobarbital, a barbiturate that calms and sedates, plus aminophylline and ephedrine, which are actually stimulant-type drugs used to open the airways. The piece that matters here is the amobarbital. Animal studies hint that berberine may have its own mild sedative effect, so in theory pairing it with a sedating drug could add up and leave you more drowsy, foggy, or slowed down than usual.
I'll be honest: this is a theoretical concern based only on lab and animal data, not strong human studies, so it may not amount to much. Still, since this medicine already affects the brain, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding berberine. Don't change anything on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aminophylline, Amobarbital, Ephedrine page
“Amesec is an unusual mix, a sedative barbiturate (amobarbital) plus the stimulant ephedrine and the asthma drug aminophylline, so its interaction list pulls hard in both directions and deserves real care, with 21 of the 151 ingredients rated major. The most everyday hazard is caffeine.”
