Doxylamine Succinate falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Betel Nut interacts with.

In vitro and animal research suggests that betel nut extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Additionally, in one case series, adults who were treated with procyclidine, an anticholinergic drug, and neuroleptics for the management of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) due to fluphenazine ultimately developed severe EPS, such as tremor and stiffness, thought to be related to betel nut use. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and betel nut might decrease the effectiveness of betel nut or the anticholinergic agent.
Some anticholinergic drugs include atropine, benztropine (Cogentin), biperiden (Akineton), procyclidine (Kemadrin), and trihexyphenidyl (Artane). Avoid concomitant use.

Doxylamine, the active ingredient in Unisom, works in part by blocking acetylcholine, which is what makes it useful for sleep but also causes those classic side effects like dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, and grogginess. Betel nut seems to push in the opposite direction: lab and animal studies hint that it raises acetylcholine activity. So in theory, chewing betel nut could blunt some of doxylamine's effect, or the two could work against each other.

Keep in mind this is theoretical, based mostly on lab work and one small report involving a different drug, so it's far from proven. Honestly though, the bigger concern is betel nut itself, since it's strongly tied to mouth cancer and addiction. If you use both, please check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
