Dapagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Bilberry interacts with.

Theoretically, bilberry leaf or fruit extract may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that bilberry leaf extract might have blood glucose-lowering activity. Also, one small clinical trial in patients with type 2 diabetes shows that taking bilberry fruit extract 470 mg as a single dose prior to an oral glucose tolerance test lowers plasma glucose levels when compared with placebo.

Here's the simple version: bilberry, especially the leaf extract, may have a mild blood sugar lowering effect of its own. Since dapagliflozin (Farxiga) already works to bring your blood sugar down, stacking the two together could push your levels a little lower than expected. On its own, dapagliflozin rarely causes serious low blood sugar, but if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, that added nudge from bilberry matters more.

I'll be honest with you, this concern mostly comes from animal studies and one small human test, so it's more theoretical than proven. Food amounts of bilberries are unlikely to cause trouble. If you take a concentrated supplement, just keep an eye out for shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
