Bishop's weed constituents seem to cause photosensitivity. Theoretically, concomitant use of bishop's weed with photosensitizing drugs might result in increased photosensitivity.
Some drugs that cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.

Here's the short version: the concern with Bishop's Weed and your Vicoprofen (hydrocodone with ibuprofen) is about sun sensitivity, not about how your body breaks the medicine down. Bishop's Weed contains psoralens, natural compounds that make your skin react more strongly to sunlight. The ibuprofen half of Vicoprofen can, on its own, also make some people a little more prone to sunburn.

So if you combined the two, the worry is that you might burn faster or get a stronger skin reaction in the sun than you'd expect. To be honest, this is theoretical and based only on weak, anecdotal reports, so it's not a major alarm. Still, if you ever use a psoralen product, please loop in your dermatologist or pharmacist first, and protect your skin with sunscreen.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

Hydrocodone, Ibuprofen also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Bergapten, a constituent of bishop's weed, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in vitro. Theoretically, bishop's weed might inhibit elimination and increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include alprazolam (Xanax), amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), buspirone (Buspar), cerivastatin (Baycol), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), fexofenadine (Allegra), itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), lansoprazole (Prevacid), losartan (Cozaar), lovastatin (Mevacor), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), sertraline (Zoloft), sibutramine (Meridia), sildenafil (Viagra), simvastatin (Zocor), verapamil (Calan, Covera-HS, Isoptin), and many others.

Here's the thing to know about Vicoprofen, which pairs hydrocodone with ibuprofen. The hydrocodone part leans on the liver enzyme CYP3A4 to do part of its breakdown. Bishop's Weed contains bergapten, which can slow that same enzyme, at least in lab studies. If that slowdown happens in your body, hydrocodone could hang around longer than expected.

What might that feel like? More of the opioid effects, things like extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing if levels climb enough. I want to be honest though: this is mostly theoretical, based on test-tube work rather than real patients. Still, since opioids are nothing to gamble with, please run any Bishop's Weed use by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Bergapten, a constituent of bishop's weed, has antiplatelet activity. Theoretically, bishop's weed might have additive effects with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs and possibly increase the risk of bleeding.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to keep an eye on with Vicoprofen: it's a combination of hydrocodone (an opioid pain reliever) and ibuprofen. The ibuprofen half is an NSAID, and NSAIDs already nudge up bleeding risk on their own by making your platelets a little less sticky. Bishop's Weed contains a compound (bergapten) that may have its own mild blood-thinning effect, so pairing the two could, in theory, add together and raise your chances of bleeding or bruising.

I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not something proven in studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, stomach upset, or dark stools, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Bishop's Weed (Ammi majus) is a flowering plant whose seeds contain natural light-sensitizing compounds called psoralens, which have been studied mainly for skin conditions like vitiligo and psoriasis when combined with light therapy. The plant is potentially toxic and can cause severe skin and eye reactions when exposed to sunlight, so it is not something to take on your own. If you are interested in psoralen-based treatments, work with a dermatologist rather than self-treating.
