Amphetamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Black Cohosh interacts with.

Some research suggests that black cohosh might inhibit CYP2D6, but there is conflicting evidence.
Some clinical research suggests that black cohosh might modestly inhibit CYP2D6 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme. However, contradictory clinical research shows a specific black cohosh product (Remifemin, Enzymatic Therapy) 40 mg twice daily does not significantly inhibit metabolism of a CYP2D6 substrate in healthy study volunteers. Until more is known, use black cohosh cautiously in patients taking drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.

Here's the gist of it: your body partly relies on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to break down amphetamine. Black cohosh may slow that enzyme down a bit, and if it does, your amphetamine could clear a little slower and build up. That could mean stronger or longer-lasting effects, like a faster heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, less appetite, or feeling wired.

The good news is that the evidence here is genuinely mixed. Some studies suggest a mild blocking effect, while others found no real change at all, so any bump is likely modest if it happens. Still, since amphetamine already revs things up, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two, especially if you notice new side effects.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
