Almotriptan falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Black Seed interacts with.

Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with black seed might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders.
Animal research suggests that black seed can increase brain serotonin levels. In one case report, a 35-year-old man undergoing endoscopic surgery experienced immediate postoperative serotonin syndrome that was likely associated with the use of black seed oil 600 mg daily starting 4 days before surgery, and precipitated by the use of serotonergic pain medications, including fentanyl and oxycodone. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using black seed with serotonergic drugs.

Almotriptan (Axert) works on serotonin receptors to ease your migraine, so it already nudges your serotonin system. Black seed may push brain serotonin levels up a bit too, based mostly on animal studies and one case report where black seed oil seemed to play a part in serotonin syndrome alongside strong pain medicines. The worry is that stacking the two could, in rare cases, raise the chance of serotonin syndrome, with signs like agitation, shivering, sweating, fast heartbeat, muscle twitching, or confusion.

Honestly, this is a theoretical, low-evidence concern, and a sprinkle of black seed as a spice is unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark. Before pairing them, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
