Clinical research suggests that blood irradiation therapy may stimulate immune function in some patients. Theoretically, concurrent use of blood irradiation therapy might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the idea behind this one: blood irradiation therapy (exposing blood to UV or laser light) is thought to possibly rev up parts of the immune system. Because palbociclib (Ibrance) works partly by slowing down cell division (including some immune cells, which is why it can lower your white blood cell counts), the worry is that the two could pull in opposite directions. In theory, that might blunt some of palbociclib's intended effect.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how each one works, not real-world studies with palbociclib. I would not panic over it. But since palbociclib is a serious cancer medicine, please talk with your oncologist before adding any light-based blood therapy. Don't change your palbociclib on your own.

About Palbociclib

What Is Palbociclib Used For?

Brand name: Ibrance

Palbociclib (brand name Ibrance) is used to treat adults with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer. It is always given in combination with other medicines — either an aromatase inhibitor as a first hormonal treatment, or with fulvestrant after the cancer has progressed on prior hormonal therapy. It is also used with inavolisib and fulvestrant for a specific subtype (PIK3CA-mutated, endocrine-resistant) of this cancer confirmed by an FDA-authorized test.

Ibrance is also approved in combination with trastuzumab (with or without pertuzumab) and endocrine therapy for maintenance treatment of adults with HR-positive, HER2-positive locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer, following initial induction treatment.
