Citalopram falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bog Labrador Tea interacts with.

In vitro research shows that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Bog Labrador tea leaves can increase the concentration of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Extracts obtained from different geographical regions in Quebec resulted in differing potency of CYP3A4 induction. Bog Labrador tea might increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), amiodarone (Cordarone), ticagrelor (Brilinta), triazolam (Halcion), and others.

Here's the gist for citalopram (Celexa). Lab studies suggest Bog Labrador tea may speed up an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down citalopram. If that enzyme works faster, your body could clear the drug a bit quicker, which in theory might make it less effective. Over time you might notice your depression isn't as well controlled.

I want to be honest though: this is based only on test-tube and lab work, not on real people, and the effect varied a lot between plant samples. So it's a fairly weak, theoretical concern. Citalopram is mostly handled by other enzymes too, which softens the worry. Still, before you brew this regularly, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Brand name: Celexa

Citalopram — available as tablets (including brand Celexa), oral solution, and capsules — is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. This includes depression that causes persistent low mood, loss of interest in everyday activities, changes in sleep or appetite, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

Citalopram capsules are specifically indicated for adults with MDD but are not intended for starting or stopping treatment — another citalopram product must be used for dose titration. All forms are indicated for adults only; citalopram tablets are not approved for use in children.
