Infigratinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bog Labrador Tea interacts with.

In vitro research shows that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Bog Labrador tea leaves can increase the concentration of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Extracts obtained from different geographical regions in Quebec resulted in differing potency of CYP3A4 induction. Bog Labrador tea might increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), amiodarone (Cordarone), ticagrelor (Brilinta), triazolam (Halcion), and others.

Here's the connection for Truseltiq (infigratinib). Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down this cancer medicine. Early lab work (not human studies) suggests Bog Labrador tea may speed that enzyme up, meaning it could clear infigratinib out of your system faster than intended.

If that happens, you might get less of the cancer-fighting benefit you're counting on, which is a real concern for a drug treating advanced bile duct cancer. This is theoretical and based only on test-tube data, so don't panic. But because the stakes are high, please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist before brewing this tea. They can decide what's safest for you.

What Is Infigratinib Used For?

  • Infigratinib is used in adults who have received previous therapy to treat a certain type of cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) that has spread to nearby tissues or other parts of the body and cannot be removed by surgery. Infigratinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells.
