Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bog Labrador Tea interacts with.

In vitro research shows that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Bog Labrador tea leaves can increase the concentration of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Extracts obtained from different geographical regions in Quebec resulted in differing potency of CYP3A4 induction. Bog Labrador tea might increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), amiodarone (Cordarone), ticagrelor (Brilinta), triazolam (Halcion), and others.

Here's the concern with pairing Bog Labrador tea and Vosevi (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir). Lab studies suggest this tea may speed up an enzyme in your body called CYP3A4. Two ingredients in Vosevi, velpatasvir and especially voxilaprevir, are partly cleared by that enzyme. So in theory, the tea could push your body to break these medicines down faster, leaving lower levels in your blood.

Why that matters: with hepatitis C treatment, keeping steady drug levels is key to fully clearing the virus. Lower levels could mean a weaker punch and a higher chance the treatment doesn't work. Right now this is only test-tube evidence, not proven in people, so don't panic. But since a successful cure is the goal, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

What Is Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, and Voxilaprevir Used For?

Brand name: Vosevi

Vosevi is used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults without cirrhosis (liver scarring) or with compensated cirrhosis (mild liver scarring, Child-Pugh A). It is specifically for people who have already tried an HCV treatment that did not fully work.

Vosevi is approved for adults with HCV genotypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 who were previously treated with a regimen containing an NS5A inhibitor. It is also approved for adults with genotype 1a or 3 who were previously treated with sofosbuvir without an NS5A inhibitor. Note: Vosevi has not been shown to offer additional benefit over sofosbuvir/velpatasvir for adults with genotype 1b, 2, 4, 5, or 6 who received sofosbuvir without an NS5A inhibitor.
