Tamoxifen Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bog Labrador Tea interacts with.

In vitro research shows that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Bog Labrador tea leaves can increase the concentration of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Extracts obtained from different geographical regions in Quebec resulted in differing potency of CYP3A4 induction. Bog Labrador tea might increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), amiodarone (Cordarone), ticagrelor (Brilinta), triazolam (Halcion), and others.

Here's the wrinkle with tamoxifen: it's actually a prodrug. Your body has to convert it into its active form (mostly called endoxifen) before it can do its job protecting against breast cancer. CYP3A4 is one of the enzymes involved in handling it. Lab studies suggest Bog Labrador tea may speed up CYP3A4 activity, which could shift how tamoxifen is processed.

Because tamoxifen is a cancer-prevention medicine where steady, reliable levels really matter, I'd rather not gamble. That said, this concern comes only from test-tube and animal research, not from people, so we genuinely don't know how much (if anything) it means in real life. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before sipping this tea regularly while on tamoxifen.

Bog Labrador tea is a wetland shrub whose leaves have long been brewed as a traditional beverage and folk remedy, especially among Indigenous peoples of North America. What Is Tamoxifen Used For?

Brand names: Nolvadex, Soltamox

Tamoxifen is used to treat metastatic breast cancer (breast cancer that has spread) in both women and men, and as adjuvant (after-surgery) therapy for early-stage breast cancer in women. It also reduces the occurrence of cancer in the opposite breast when used as adjuvant therapy.

In women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) — a very early, non-invasive form of breast cancer — tamoxifen is used after breast surgery and radiation to reduce the risk of developing invasive breast cancer. It is also approved to reduce the incidence of breast cancer in women who are at high risk but have not yet been diagnosed. Soltamox (oral solution) is specifically indicated for all of these uses in adult patients.
