Here's the gist of it. One of the ways asenapine (Saphris, Secuado) works is by blocking alpha-adrenergic receptors, which is partly why it can lower blood pressure or make you feel lightheaded when you stand up. Butcher's broom seems to do the opposite at those same receptors, acting like an alpha stimulant. In theory, it could nudge against asenapine's effect at that spot.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. This concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from real people taking both together, so it's really a maybe. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since asenapine is a serious medication, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before adding butcher's broom rather than starting it on your own.

What Is Asenapine Used For?

Brand names: Saphris, Secuado

Asenapine treats schizophrenia in adults and bipolar I disorder (manic or mixed episodes) in adults and, for the sublingual forms, in children and teenagers ages 10 to 17. It can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate for bipolar I disorder in adults.

Saphris and asenapine sublingual tablets are approved for both schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder. Secuado (the skin patch) is approved only for schizophrenia in adults.
