Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ALPHA-ADRENERGIC ANTAGONISTS
Why this applies to Aripiprazole Lauroxil
Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under ALPHA-ADRENERGIC ANTAGONISTS — the group Butcher's Broom interacts with.
Animal and in vitro studies show that butcher's broom has alpha-adrenergic agonist effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of this one. Aripiprazole lauroxil (Aristada) is a long-acting injection that, among other things, has some mild blocking action at alpha-adrenergic receptors, which are part of how your body controls blood pressure. Butcher's broom seems to do the opposite, gently nudging those same receptors in the active direction. So in theory, the supplement could slightly oppose this part of aripiprazole's activity.
The important word here is theoretical. This is based only on lab and animal data, not real cases in people, and butcher's broom doesn't change how aripiprazole itself is broken down. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since this medication treats serious conditions, just run it by your pharmacist or prescriber before starting butcher's broom.
