Canadian Fleabane and Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen

Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Canadian Fleabane interacts with.

Theoretically, Canadian fleabane might cause additive effects and side effects when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Canadian fleabane has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro.
Some anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know about Combogesic: the ibuprofen part already has a mild blood-thinning effect of its own because it dampens how your platelets stick together. Canadian Fleabane, at least in lab dish studies, seems to do something similar. So in theory, pairing them could add up and make it a little easier to bruise or bleed, think nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or stomach upset that lingers.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern, based on how these things behave in test tubes rather than real people. The acetaminophen side isn't really part of this. Still, if you take Combogesic regularly or have any bleeding risk, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding the supplement.
