Theoretically, Cassia auriculata flower may increase carbamazepine levels. Research in animals suggests that concurrent administration may cause a significant rise in carbamazepine blood levels. The mechanism of this interaction is unknown.

Here is the short version: in animal studies, taking Cassia auriculata flower alongside carbamazepine appeared to push carbamazepine blood levels higher. Researchers are not sure exactly why this happens, and we do not have solid human studies yet, so think of this as a possible concern rather than a proven one.

Why it still matters: carbamazepine has a fairly narrow safe range, so even modest increases can tip you into more side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, blurred or double vision, unsteadiness, and nausea. Carbamazepine is active on its own (not a prodrug), so more in your blood simply means a stronger effect. I would not start this supplement without first checking with your pharmacist or doctor, since they may want to monitor your levels.

About Carbamazepine

What Is Carbamazepine Used For?

Brand names: Tegretol, Tegretol XR, Equetro, Carbatrol, Carnexiv

Carbamazepine is used to treat certain types of seizures — including partial seizures, generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures, and mixed seizure patterns. It works best for those specific seizure types; it does not appear to control absence (petit mal) seizures.

It is also prescribed to relieve the intense facial pain of trigeminal neuralgia — a nerve condition that causes sudden, severe pain along the face. It is not a general painkiller and shouldn't be used for ordinary aches and pains.
