Here's the simple version: olmesartan (Benicar) already works to bring your blood pressure down, and concentrated celery seed extract may nudge it down a little further. In one small study, the extract lowered daytime top-number (systolic) pressure by around 12 points. So the concern isn't that celery hurts the medicine, it's that the two together could lower your pressure a bit more than expected.

If your numbers drop too far, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when you stand up quickly. This is most relevant with supplement doses of celery seed, not the celery you eat in a salad or soup. If you're thinking about a celery supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your home readings.

What Is Olmesartan Used For?

Brand names: Olmesartan Medoxomil, Benicar

Olmesartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children aged 6 years and older. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is available as Benicar and as generic olmesartan medoxomil tablets, including a combination tablet with hydrochlorothiazide. All of these products are used for high blood pressure.
