Here's the gist with this combination. The medicine you asked about (Triavil, which blends amitriptyline with perphenazine) is already known to make some people more sensitive to sunlight. Perphenazine in particular can cause sunburn-like reactions, and chenopodium oil itself has been linked to photosensitivity too. So putting them together could, in theory, make your skin react more strongly to the sun, meaning faster burning, redness, or a rash on areas that get sun exposure.

Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not something proven in studies. Chenopodium oil also isn't recommended internally because it can be quite toxic. If you're considering it, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and practice good sun protection in the meantime.

What is Chenopodium Oil?

Chenopodium oil is a strong-smelling essential oil from the epazote plant that was historically used to treat intestinal worms. It contains ascaridole, a compound that is quite toxic, and overdoses have caused serious harm, so it is no longer recommended for internal use. Safer modern deworming medicines exist, so talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using this oil.
