Vinblastine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chokeberry interacts with.

Theoretically, chokeberry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that chokeberry inhibits CYP3A4. In humans, there is one case report of a drug interaction with trabectedin, a CYP3A4 substrate, which is hypothesized to have been caused by chokeberry inhibition of CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for vinblastine: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down and clear it out. Lab studies suggest chokeberry may slow that same enzyme. If that happened in a real person, vinblastine could build up to higher levels than intended, and this is a powerful chemo drug where extra exposure can mean worse side effects like a bigger drop in white blood cells, nerve tingling or numbness, constipation, and mouth sores.

That said, this is mostly theoretical. The concern comes from test-tube data and a single case report involving a different drug, not from studies on vinblastine itself. Still, since chemo dosing is so precise, please loop in your oncology team or pharmacist before using concentrated chokeberry supplements.

What Is Vinblastine Used For?

Brand name: Velban

Vinblastine Sulfate Injection is used in the treatment of a range of cancers. Conditions that tend to respond well include generalized Hodgkin's disease, lymphocytic lymphoma, histiocytic lymphoma, advanced mycosis fungoides (a type of skin lymphoma), advanced testicular cancer, Kaposi's sarcoma, and Letterer-Siwe disease (a rare immune condition also called histiocytosis X).

It may also be used for cancers that respond less reliably, such as choriocarcinoma resistant to other chemotherapy drugs, and breast cancer that has not responded to hormonal therapy. Vinblastine is often given as part of a combination chemotherapy regimen alongside other cancer medicines to improve response rates.
