Here's the gist: glyburide already pushes your pancreas to release more insulin, which brings your blood sugar down. Cissus quadrangularis may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. Put the two together and you could, in theory, drift a little too low. That means watching for signs of hypoglycemia like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, confusion, or sudden hunger.

I want to be honest about how strong this concern is. It's theoretical, based on how the plant behaves and a few small studies, not on solid proof with glyburide specifically. So don't panic, but do keep up your usual blood sugar checks. If you want to add Cissus, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

What Is Glyburide Used For?

Brand names: Diabeta, Micronase, Glynase, Glycron, Micronized, Glynase PresTab, Albert Glyburide

Glyburide tablets are used alongside diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the body produces dangerous levels of acids called ketones).

Glyburide may be used alone or combined with metformin when metformin alone is not enough. It can also be used to help transition patients who are moving from insulin or other diabetes pills to a new regimen, under a doctor's guidance.
