Cocoa + Tigecycline
Tigecycline brand name: Tygacil.
Cocoa has a moderate interaction with Tigecycline. Theoretically, quinolone antibiotics might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Tigecycline
Tigecycline falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Cocoa interacts with.
Cocoa contains caffeine. Quinolones (also referred to as fluoroquinolones) decrease caffeine clearance.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's an honest heads-up: the interaction on file is really about quinolone (fluoroquinolone) antibiotics slowing how your body clears caffeine. Tigecycline, however, is a tetracycline-class antibiotic, not a quinolone, so this particular caffeine concern doesn't truly apply to it. The category match in the database doesn't fit the way tigecycline actually works in the body.
Cocoa does contain a little caffeine, but tigecycline isn't known to block its breakdown the way quinolones can. On top of that, tigecycline is given as an IV infusion in the hospital, so a cup of cocoa or a chocolate bar isn't a realistic worry here. If you're ever unsure or using concentrated cocoa supplements, it's always smart to run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Tigecycline page
“Tigecycline (Tygacil) is an intravenous antibiotic usually reserved for serious or resistant infections, and its supplement list deserves real attention. The two major-rated entries come first: oleander, a heart-toxic plant whose compounds may build to dangerous levels with certain antibiotics on board, and PABA, which can blunt the an…”

About Cocoa
What is Cocoa?
- Heart and blood vessel health
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Mental focus and mood
- Skin moisturizing (cocoa butter)
Cocoa is rich in plant compounds called flavanols that may modestly support blood vessel function and blood pressure, but most chocolate products are high in sugar, fat, and calories, which can offset any benefit. Enjoy cocoa as part of a balanced diet, and talk to your pharmacist before using concentrated cocoa supplements, especially if you have heart or blood pressure conditions.
About Tigecycline Injection
What Is Tigecycline Injection Used For?
Brand name: Tygacil
Tygacil (tigecycline for injection) is approved for adults 18 and older to treat three types of serious bacterial infections: complicated skin and skin structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal (stomach and intestinal) infections, and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (pneumonia caught outside a hospital).
It is not approved for diabetic foot infections or for pneumonia caught in a hospital setting, including ventilator-associated pneumonia — clinical trials showed it did not work well enough for those uses and was associated with higher mortality in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia.
