Here's the thing about alendronate: your body barely absorbs it to begin with. Even on an empty stomach with plain water, less than 1% actually gets into your bloodstream. That's why the instructions are so strict (take it first thing in the morning, with a full glass of plain water, and stay upright). Anything in your gut that grabs onto the pill can knock that tiny absorption down even further.

Because coffee charcoal has a porous, sponge-like surface, it may bind alendronate in your stomach and keep it from being absorbed, which could quietly leave you with less bone protection than you think. This is theoretical, based on how charcoal behaves, but it's easy to avoid: keep them well separated and check the timing with your pharmacist.

About Alendronate

What Is Alendronate Used For?

Alendronate tablets (including Alendronate, Alendronate Sodium, and Fosamax) are used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, treat osteoporosis in men, treat glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (bone loss caused by long-term steroid use) in men and women, and treat Paget's disease of bone. Binosto effervescent tablet is specifically indicated for treating osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and increasing bone mass in men with osteoporosis.

Alendronate Sodium oral solution is indicated for treating osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and increasing bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Alendronate helps build bone mass and reduce the risk of fractures, including hip and spinal fractures.
