Here's the basic idea with coffee charcoal: like any charcoal-type product, it has a porous surface that can grab onto things in your gut. If you swallow it around the same time as your amphetamine (Dyanavel XR, Mydayis, Adzenys, and the like), it may bind some of the medication before your body absorbs it. That could mean less amphetamine reaches your bloodstream, so you might notice weaker focus or symptom control, or feel like your dose just isn't working that day.

The good news is this is a theoretical concern based on how charcoal behaves, not strong human studies. A simple fix is timing: keep your amphetamine and the coffee charcoal at least two hours apart. Before pairing them, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
