Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts like a sponge in your gut. That porous, charred surface can grab onto medicine sitting in your stomach and intestines before your body has a chance to absorb it. Your cholesterol pill Nexlizet (bempedoic acid and ezetimibe) is swallowed and needs to be absorbed to work, so taking the two close together could mean less of the medicine actually gets into you.

If that happens, the main worry isn't a scary side effect, it's that your cholesterol medicine may simply not do its job as well, leaving your LDL higher than you and your doctor want. This concern is based on how charcoal behaves in general, not on a specific study with Nexlizet. An easy fix is spacing them apart, at least two hours. Please run your timing by your pharmacist before making any changes.
