Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like a sponge in your gut. Because it has that porous, charcoal-like surface, it can grab onto medicines you swallow and keep them from being fully absorbed. Inqovi (decitabine with cedazuridine) is taken by mouth, so if you take both around the same time, the charcoal could soak up some of your dose before your body uses it.

That matters because this is a carefully dosed cancer therapy. If less drug gets absorbed, it may simply not work as well against your myelodysplastic syndrome or CMML. Keep in mind this concern is theoretical, based on how charcoal behaves, not on direct studies with this drug. Please don't stop either one. Talk with your oncology team or pharmacist first, and ask whether spacing them at least two hours apart makes sense.

What Is Decitabine and Cedazuridine Used For?

Brand name: Inqovi

Inqovi is used to treat adult patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) — a group of blood cancers where bone marrow doesn't make enough healthy blood cells — and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML). It covers several subtypes of MDS, including refractory anemia, refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts, refractory anemia with excess blasts, and both previously treated and newly diagnosed disease.

Inqovi is also approved in combination with venetoclax for the treatment of newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adults who are 75 years of age or older, or in adults of any age whose other health conditions make intensive chemotherapy unsafe.
