ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Doxepin
Doxepin falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist with coffee charcoal and your doxepin: like other charcoals, it has a porous surface that can grab onto medicine sitting in your stomach and gut. If you swallow them too close together, some of your doxepin may bind to the charcoal and never make it into your bloodstream. That could mean a weaker effect, so you might not get the sleepy, settled feeling doxepin is meant to give you for sleep.
The good news is this is easy to manage. Keep them apart by at least two hours so the charcoal isn't in your gut at the same time as your dose. This concern is based on how charcoal behaves rather than firm studies, but spacing them out is a smart, simple habit. When in doubt, check with your pharmacist.

“Doxepin is a sedating tricyclic prescribed for depression, anxiety, and often sleep itself, and the people taking it tend to shop the same shelf where the trouble sits. Of the 186 supplements on file, 78 deepen its drowsiness, with alcohol (beer and wine carry major, well-documented ratings) and kava the clearest examples, and I would…”

Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Doxepin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Doxepin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Coffee Charcoal — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
