Here's the gist with Exemestane (Aromasin) and coffee charcoal. Like other charcoal-type products, coffee charcoal has a porous surface that can grab onto things in your gut, including your medicine. If you swallow them too close together, some of your exemestane may get bound up and never make it into your bloodstream. That means you could absorb less than your full dose.

Why that matters: exemestane works by lowering estrogen to help control breast cancer, so getting your complete dose every day really counts. The good news is this is a theoretical concern based on how charcoal behaves, not a long list of proven cases. An easy fix is simple spacing. Keep them at least two hours apart, and check with your pharmacist or oncologist before mixing the two.

About Exemestane

What Is Exemestane Used For?

Brand name: Aromasin

Exemestane (brand name Aromasin) is used in postmenopausal women with estrogen-receptor positive early breast cancer who have already taken tamoxifen for two to three years — it is then used to complete a total of five years of hormonal therapy. It is also used to treat advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose cancer continued to grow during or after tamoxifen therapy.

These uses apply to Aromasin and the generic exemestane tablets. This medication is not approved for breast cancer in premenopausal women.
