Here's the thing to keep in mind with flutamide and coffee charcoal: like other charcoal-type products, it has a porous surface that can grab onto medicines sitting in your gut. If you swallow them around the same time, some of your flutamide dose may bind to the charcoal and never get absorbed into your body.

Why does that matter? Flutamide works by blocking male hormones to slow prostate cancer growth, and you need a steady, full dose to keep that effect going. Soaking up part of the dose could mean it works less well over time. The good news is this concern is theoretical, based on how charcoal behaves rather than proven cases. A simple fix is spacing them apart by at least two hours, but please run your routine by your pharmacist or oncologist first.

What Is Flutamide Used For?

Brand names: Eulexin, Euflex

Eulexin (flutamide) capsules are used to treat prostate cancer in men. They are always used together with an LHRH agonist (a hormone-lowering injection), never alone.

Eulexin is indicated for two stages of prostate cancer: locally confined Stage B2-C prostate cancer (used alongside goserelin acetate and radiation therapy, starting eight weeks before radiation begins) and Stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the prostate, taken with an LHRH agonist until the disease progresses).
