ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Quinapril
Quinapril falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like activated charcoal in your gut. It has a porous surface that can grab onto things you swallow, including your quinapril tablet, before your body has a chance to absorb it. If the two are sitting in your stomach at the same time, you may take in less of your blood pressure medicine than you should.
For quinapril, that could mean it works less well, so your blood pressure or heart failure isn't controlled as tightly as your doctor intended. The easy fix is timing: keep coffee charcoal and your quinapril at least two hours apart. This is based on how charcoal behaves rather than direct studies, so it's a sensible precaution. Check with your pharmacist before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Quinapril page
“Quinapril (Accupril) lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, and that is where most of the 166 supplements and herbs on this list collide with it. The bulk either push its blood-pressure-lowering effect too far or work against it, and with six entries rated major, this page deserves a careful read, not a skim.”

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.
About Quinapril
What Is Quinapril Used For?
Brand names: Accupril, Accupro
Quinapril tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. Quinapril may be used alone or combined with a thiazide diuretic (water pill) when one medication isn't enough.
Quinapril tablets are also used in the management of heart failure as an add-on therapy alongside other standard treatments such as diuretics and/or digitalis.

Quinapril Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Quinapril as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Coffee Charcoal — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
