Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like a sponge in your gut. Because it has that porous, charcoal-like surface, it can grab onto pills you swallow before your body fully absorbs them. Selinexor (Xpovio) is taken by mouth, so some of your dose could get bound up and never make it into your bloodstream. That matters because selinexor is a cancer medicine where getting the full intended dose really counts. Less absorption could mean less benefit against your multiple myeloma or lymphoma.

This concern is based on how charcoal generally behaves, not on a specific study with selinexor, so the evidence is theoretical. To be safe, separate the two by at least two hours, and please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist before mixing them.

What Is Selinexor Used For?

Brand name: Xpovio

Xpovio (selinexor) is used to treat multiple myeloma in adults. When used together with bortezomib and dexamethasone, it is for adults who have had at least one prior treatment. This combination is sometimes called XVd.

Xpovio is also used with dexamethasone alone (called Xd) for adults with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma — meaning the cancer came back or stopped responding — who have already tried at least four prior therapies and whose disease no longer responds to several other standard drug types.
