ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Tinzaparin
Tinzaparin falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's a bit of good news on this one. The interaction we have on file is about charcoal binding up oral medications in your gut and blocking their absorption. Tinzaparin (Innohep) isn't a pill, it's a low molecular weight heparin you inject under the skin, so it never passes through your stomach or intestines where coffee charcoal does its binding.
Because the two don't meet in your gut, coffee charcoal shouldn't weaken your tinzaparin or change how well it thins your blood. That said, this is a blood thinner, and bleeding or bruising is always something to watch. If you have a gut condition or take other oral meds, it's still smart to run coffee charcoal by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Tinzaparin page
“Someone giving themselves tinzaparin (Innohep) injections is usually recovering from a blood clot in the leg or lung, or trying to prevent one, and that is exactly why this list of 218 supplements deserves real seriousness rather than a shrug. Nearly all of them, 202 in fact, push in one direction: extra bleeding risk on top of a drug…”

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.

Tinzaparin Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Tinzaparin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Coffee Charcoal — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
