Coleus + Beclomethasone
Beclomethasone brand names: Beclovent, Vanceril.
Coleus has a moderate interaction with Beclomethasone. Theoretically, taking coleus might decrease serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Beclomethasone
Beclomethasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Coleus interacts with.
In vitro research shows that coleus can activate the nuclear receptor, pregnane X receptor (PXR), which results in increased expression of CYP3A4. Although the clinical significance of this is not known, use caution when considering concomitant use of coleus and other drugs affected by these enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind this pairing. Your inhaler, beclomethasone, is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest Coleus (forskolin) can nudge the body into making more of that enzyme, which in theory could clear the steroid a little faster and make it slightly less effective at calming the swelling in your airways. If that happened, you might notice your asthma is less controlled, with more wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness.
I want to keep this in perspective. This is based only on test-tube research, not on real people, so it may not matter much in everyday life, especially since beclomethasone acts mostly right in the lungs. Still, asthma control is nothing to gamble with, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Coleus, and never stop your inhaler on your own.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Beclomethasone page
“Most people on beclomethasone (Beclovent, Vanceril) use it daily to keep asthma or nasal allergies quiet, and plenty also take herbal products, which is where this list earns real caution. Of the 202 ingredients on this page, four rate major, and those deserve your attention ahead of everything else.”

About Coleus
What is Coleus?
- Weight management
- Asthma and breathing
- High blood pressure
- Heart conditions
- Glaucoma (eye pressure)
- Exercise and body composition
Coleus is a plant from the mint family whose root contains a compound called forskolin, often marketed for weight loss, asthma, and heart health. While early lab and small human studies are interesting, solid proof that Coleus supplements help any of these conditions is limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have heart problems or low blood pressure.
About Beclomethasone Oral Inhalation
What Is Beclomethasone Oral Inhalation Used For?
Brand names: Beclovent, Vanceril
Beclomethasone dipropionate HFA inhalation aerosol (the oral inhaler, sold as Qvar Redihaler) is used for the long-term, preventive treatment of asthma in people 5 years of age and older.
It is not a rescue inhaler. It does not relieve sudden asthma symptoms such as shortness of breath. The nasal spray form, Qnasl, appears in the supplied label text in studies of allergic rhinitis (nasal allergy symptoms), but no approved uses for it are listed there.

Beclomethasone Is Linked to Lower Levels of 8 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Beclomethasone as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Coleus — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
