Here's the simple version: both colocynth and bisacodyl (Dulcolax) work by stirring up your intestines to push out a bowel movement. Bisacodyl is already a strong stimulant laxative on its own, and colocynth is an even harsher one. Stacking two laxatives that pull in the same direction can mean too much of a good thing.

When that happens, you can lose a lot of water and important minerals like potassium and sodium through watery diarrhea. That can leave you dehydrated, lightheaded, crampy, weak, or with an off heartbeat in severe cases. This concern is theoretical, based on how both products work rather than hard studies, but honestly I'd steer clear of colocynth entirely since it can be toxic. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this.

Colocynth is a bitter desert gourd used in traditional medicine mainly as a powerful laxative, but it is highly toxic and can cause severe, sometimes deadly poisoning even at small doses. There is not enough good human evidence to support its use, and most pharmacists would advise against taking it. About Bisacodyl

What Is Bisacodyl Used For?

Brand names: Dulcolax, Gentlax

Bisacodyl is used for the temporary relief of occasional constipation and irregularity. Oral tablets (including Dulcolax Stimulant Laxative and Fleet tablets) generally produce a bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours.

Rectal suppositories (such as Dulcolax Laxative, Conlax, Avedana Gentle Laxative, and others) typically work within 15 minutes to 1 hour. The Fleet Enema (rectal) is also used for relief of fecal impaction (a severe blockage of stool) and for removal of residue after barium administration (a procedure used in certain imaging tests), and usually works within 5 to 20 minutes.
