Theoretically, colocynth might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with warfarin.
Colocynth is thought to have laxative effects. In some people colocynth can cause diarrhea. Diarrhea can increase the effects and adverse effects of warfarin.

Here's the concern with combining colocynth and warfarin. Colocynth is a harsh laxative, and the worry isn't really about how your liver processes warfarin. It's about the diarrhea it can cause. When you have a lot of watery diarrhea, your body can lose fluids and absorb less vitamin K from food. Since warfarin works by lowering vitamin K's clotting activity, losing vitamin K can make warfarin act stronger, nudging your INR up and raising your risk of bleeding (think easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums).

This is a theoretical, pharmacology-based caution, not something proven in studies. Still, warfarin is a touchy drug where small shifts matter. Honestly, most pharmacists would steer you away from colocynth altogether since it can be quite toxic. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
