Empagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Colocynth interacts with.

Theoretically, colocynth might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies show that colocynth fruit powder reduces fasting blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes who are also taking antidiabetes drugs.

Here's the thing about pairing colocynth with empagliflozin (Jardiance): a few small studies suggest colocynth fruit powder can lower fasting blood sugar on its own. So if you add it on top of your Jardiance, the two together could push your blood sugar lower than you intended. On its own, empagliflozin rarely causes low blood sugar, but stacking another glucose-lowering agent raises that chance.

Watch for the usual signs of a low: shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, or confusion. Honestly though, my bigger worry is that colocynth is genuinely toxic and can cause severe poisoning, so I'd steer clear of it entirely. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before trying it.

About Empagliflozin

What Is Empagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Jardiance

Jardiance (empagliflozin) tablets are approved for several important uses in adults. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization in adults with heart failure. It also slows the progression of chronic kidney disease by reducing the risk of serious kidney decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization. In adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, Jardiance reduces the risk of cardiovascular death.

Jardiance is also used — alongside diet and exercise — to improve blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged 10 and older. It is not recommended for blood sugar control in type 1 diabetes (it may raise the risk of a dangerous condition called diabetic ketoacidosis) or in type 2 diabetes patients with severely reduced kidney function.
