Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.

Here's the honest picture with Orencia (abatacept) and cordyceps. Abatacept calms an overactive immune system to ease rheumatoid arthritis pain, swelling, and joint damage. Cordyceps, on the other hand, has been studied as something that may stimulate the immune system in lab and animal work. So in theory, it could push against what abatacept is trying to do and make your arthritis control less reliable.

I want to be straight with you: this is mostly theoretical, and the human evidence is thin and mixed (some research even hints cordyceps could lower the dose needed of a different immune drug). It's not a reason to panic, but since abatacept also affects your infection risk, I'd run any cordyceps supplement past your rheumatologist or pharmacist before starting it.

Cordyceps is a fungus used in traditional Chinese medicine for energy, exercise performance, and lung and immune support. Human research is limited and mostly low quality, so its benefits are not well proven. It appears generally well tolerated in the short term, but quality varies and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to lack of safety data.

What Is Abatacept Injection Used For?

Brand name: Orencia

Orencia is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and adults and children 2 years and older with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) or moderately to severely active polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pJIA) — a type of arthritis that affects multiple joints in children.

Orencia is also used, alongside two other medicines (a calcineurin inhibitor and methotrexate), to prevent acute graft versus host disease (aGVHD) — a serious immune reaction — in adults and children 2 and older who receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor.
