Prednisone falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Cordyceps interacts with.

Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing. Doctors prescribe prednisone partly to calm down an overactive immune system, whether that's for arthritis, lupus, asthma flares, or an allergic reaction. Cordyceps, on the other hand, has been studied mostly in animals and lab dishes, where it seems to nudge the immune system in the opposite direction (revving it up a bit).

So the worry is that cordyceps could tug against what prednisone is trying to do, possibly making it less effective for your condition. Honestly though, this is largely theoretical, and the human evidence is thin. I wouldn't panic, but I also wouldn't add a cordyceps supplement on your own while you're relying on prednisone. Run it past your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on how you're doing.

Cordyceps is a fungus used in traditional Chinese medicine for energy, exercise performance, and lung and immune support. Human research is limited and mostly low quality, so its benefits are not well proven.
