Here's the simple version: codeine is an opioid that already tends to make you drowsy, foggy, and sometimes lightheaded. Coriander, based only on early animal research, may have a mild calming or sedative effect of its own. Put the two together and the worry is that they could add up, leaving you sleepier or slower than codeine alone would.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from lab and animal studies, not people, so it's mostly theoretical. The cilantro on your tacos almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are a different story. If you're taking those, just check with your pharmacist or doctor, and don't drive until you know how the combo affects you.

Codeine Sulfate tablets are used for the management of mild to moderate pain in adults and adolescents when other treatments have not worked well enough or are not tolerated. It is an opioid medication, so it is only appropriate when non-opioid options are inadequate.

Because of its serious risks — including addiction, misuse, and overdose — codeine is reserved for patients who truly need an opioid. Prescribers are expected to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time possible.
