Coriander + Azithromycin
Azithromycin brand names: Zithromax, Zmax, Azasite.
Coriander has a moderate interaction with Azithromycin. Theoretically, coriander might increase the risk of photosensitivity when taken with photosensitizing drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Azithromycin
Azithromycin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Coriander interacts with.
Evidence from in vitro research suggests that coriandrin, a constituent of coriander, has photosensitizing effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: azithromycin can sometimes make your skin a little more sensitive to sunlight, meaning you may sunburn faster than usual. Coriander contains a compound called coriandrin that, in lab studies, also seems to react with light. So the worry is that the two together might add up and make your skin even more sun-sensitive.
I want to be honest about the evidence here, though. This is mostly theoretical and based on test-tube research, not real patient reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The cilantro in your salsa or curry is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are a different story. Either way, wearing sunscreen and a hat while on azithromycin is just smart. Check with your pharmacist if you're using strong coriander supplements.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Coriander or Azithromycin, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

This page covers Coriander only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Azithromycin page lists 92 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), American Hellebore (major), Arsenic (major), Cesium (major) and Ephedra (major).
By severity: 8 major · 71 moderate · 13 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Azithromycin page
“A five-day Z-Pak for a sinus or chest infection seems too brief to fuss over, but azithromycin (Zithromax, Zmax) deserves genuine caution around supplements, and the eight major-rated entries on this list are the ones to understand first. Most of those involve the heart.”

About Coriander
What is Coriander?
- Digestive upset and gas
- Appetite stimulation
- Mild antimicrobial (topical)
- Diarrhea and IBS symptoms
- General flavoring and traditional remedy
Coriander (also called cilantro) is a common cooking herb and spice that has long been used in traditional medicine for digestive complaints.
